It's April 7 and I still haven't made a decision. I'm wishy washy about all of these schools, seeing as I was rejected from my first choice school (Lawrenceville). I've kinda narrowed it down between Loomis Chaffee and Concord academy. Can you guys help me make a decision? I just want to hear personal experience, opinions, statistics, anything that will help me reach a decision quickly.

ANY BITS OF INFO YOU HAVE WILL HELP ME! Thank you in advance for dropping a comment!

Things I know about Loomis: (PLease do correct me if I'm wrong)
About 600
Saturday classes once every 2 wks
a little more formal
more opportunities/people/things to do
more college-y feel on campus

likes: closer to where I live (PA), close to train station, nice facilities, nice people
dislikes: more of a "lax bro" atmosphere? (personal observation) no crew

Concord:
Half as big
No saturday classes. About as informal as it gets, with students addressing teachers by their first names
50% boarding...
Town and transportation is convenient
I felt more comfortable here.

likes: sense of family and community, good arts offerings, offers german, informal
dislikes: farther away from where i live, really small and 50% boarders, someone said that weekends were boring, no football

I was also accepted to Hill, kinda ruled that out for being so formal.
I was waitlisted at Milton, St. Andrew's DE, and Choate. I will consider all 3 of these.

If you felt more comfortable at Concord, then attend Concord . . . and don’t look back!

The difference in distance between Loomis and Concord is negligible once you’ve traveled all the way from PA. Unless either football or crew is particularly important to you, go with the school that most feels like “home” . . . and it sounds like you’ve already decided that.

They are both good schools, I’m partial to LC, but you say you feel more comfortable at Concord, so I’d tend to look at that closely. DS at Loomis is not a lax bro, tho frshman year hasnt been entirely easy because freshman boarders all live in one dorm (boys), and the rowdy guys kindof dominate. However, everyone tells us that after this first year when the upper 3 classes all integrate, it’s even easier for guys to get away from any dominant stereotype. But I get what you’re saying, I think there’s a stronger “preppy” element at LC, though probably far less so than at Choate.

Concord will be smaller, more quaint, but probably untouchable in terms of its arts programs. Academics-wise I’d guess it’s a toss-up (between all your choices, really. Lville probably has a slight edge over LC and Hill in endowment/facilities/prestige, but it’s not a huge gap, certainly one individual performance could bridge).

Remember, they’re both good choices, you should feel like you look forward to the next years. PM me if you have any Qs on Loomis

I do think it’s important to consider the 50% boarding as part of the experience is the social life but maybe that just means you go home more weekends or make an effort to make day student friends and go with them on weekends.

A couple of teachers at a school this week told my daughter, who was also having a hard time deciding, that you really have to go with what your heart and your gut tell you. Where will you be happiest?

I didn’t see any preppy kids at Loomis. Am I completely wrong? The kids looked completely anti-preppy to me. Even kind of ‘alternative’. We saw some girls with piercings and heavy make up. I was very surprised by what I saw. Did I get a wrong perception?
