Loopholes?

I'm hoping to get accepted to WUSTL next fall. The only negative about this school is that freshman aren't allowed to have cars. I'm an out of state applicant and that is definitely not going to work. Does anyone know a way for a freshman to get a permit? I know upperclassman said there are "ways", but they never elaborate. If there isn't a way to get it ok campus, does anyone know places near the campus that let you rent a spot?

The “ways” they’re talking about are having an upperclassmen buy it for you. Chances are you won’t get caught, but if you are you’re in for a world of trouble.
Or to have some exceedingly special circumstance that would cause reslife to allow you a waiver, but I can’t think of any.

I’ve also heard it’s possible to purchase monthly passes as a freshmen, but that’d cost you a good 8-900 for the year (as opposed to a typical $500 pass)

The other option would be to park it west of campus along Lindell/Maryland/Westmoreland (for free) far enough down where the resident permits are no longer required. It would be a 15-20 minute walk from the freshmen dorms. Note: I do not know of anyone who has ever actually done this.

Honestly though, I don’t see the benefit of having a car as a freshman and I get why they’re banned. It’s really not necessary, and it’s certainly not hard to find an upperclassmen for times when it is (ie doctors appointment off campus that isn’t metro accessible, but that’s really rare considering the med school can serve most needs). Or rent the WeCar.

Disclaimer: I’d be royally ticked off if I found out the reason I’ve been having trouble parking by my apt lately is because of people who don’t even live on my street (it really has been miserable lately), so I’m by no means advocating that option.

Further disclaimer: I personally abuse a huge loophole myself (I don’t have to pay for a full pass to park on campus), so take that as you will.

Edit: I can’t find anything official about freshmen & monthly passes. So don’t take my word for it that it’s possible (as the official line from parking & transpo is that freshman are not allowed cars on campus).

Why is the fact that freshmen can’t have cars “definitely not going to work?” Are you planning on making frequent trips home or something? Having a car freshman year seems really unnecessary to me.

In the past you could donate $1500 or more a year to the university, which gets you into the Eliot Society, and gives you free Duc parking (used to give a red parking permit, but don’t think it has for a while).
Not sure if they still do that… Although the pass is probably sitting at my parents home somewhere.

Also, you really don’t need a car. Quit being a cry baby.

@Johnson Thank you! You helped lots! I’ll try to see what I can find and maybe even call around the area.

@Ra It’s “not going to work” because the car goes with me or I can’t go. My mom jut bought me a car, and she’s already against me looking at out of state schools. She say. Intake the car with me or I don’t go out of state.

@marc Nah, I’m not being a crybaby. I’m fine with taking public transportation or walking around the city. My car would be baggage. I undertand that, but I have to take it. Comprende?

@Niqui77 There is parking along Forsyth that doesn’t require a permit(FREE). It’s about 1.5 blocks away from the South 40. Wouldn’t be ridiculously convenient but if you don’t plan on driving it that much then it would be a good place to keep it.
