I want to do Computer Science (L&S not EECS) at UC Berkeley.
I just retook the SAT with the intent of raising my writing score but... it stayed the same but for some bizarre reason my reading score greatly improved raising my total.

How much will my low writing score hurt me? Will UC Berkeley care about the individual section scores, or will the total score matter more? Also do UCs consider previous SAT attempts? My first time, I did better in Math (780); will it look bad that my score worsened?

According to UCB’s website, your composite scores look on par for the middle 50% of students. Send in all of your SAT scores. I’m pretty sure that the UCs don’t take your highest subscores, but it’s always worth to send them just in case. It will not matter that your score worsened.

Your lopsided SAT score is somewhat similar to my daughter’s. She got in to UC Berkeley, USC (Presidential scholar), UCLA (Regents) and Cornell last year.
