I’m applying EDII and am debating whether or not to send my SATs. I’m definitely leaning toward not sending them, but I want some second opinions. Anyway, they were 530M (hence my major concern) 690CR and 800W and SATII 670 Lit and 720 USH. I know the math is wayyyy below the Bates average, (and I’m really not that bad in math, school just sucks at teaching it and I don’t score high in math on standardized tests) but if I’m declaring an English major, know that even if I change majors I will stay in that general area and not be involved in math/science, and have all decent scores in that area (also 5’s on AP US and AP English), will the 530 hurt me? I remember at my interview, I was told they don’t place a ton of emphasis on your scores even if you do send them.
Other than that, I’m a white female from NH at a competitive Catholic college preparatory school, 3.9/4.0, top 10%, 5 APs and rest pretty much all honors, strong essays and recs, decent ECs with a lot of community service, good interview and showed a lot of interest in Bates.
Any opinions? Also, chances with/without scores?

I think that if you have any doubt, don't send your scores because it won't hurt your application at all. On the old scale, I think the average score at Bates was around 1350, and the general rule was if you had that or above you would send them. Its true that they won't place a lot of emphasis on the scores, but they will probably notice a disparity between the other people who sent them scores in the 1400s and 1500s. Your application looks pretty strong other than that though. Good luck and hopefully I will see you next year!!!

I would also advice not to send your SAT scores. It seems like your AP's are good enough (wowza!), and the rest of your app are also thumbs up

It is optional so :) better not take the risk.

Thanks for the advice!
What is the average GPA for Bates? My guidance counselor told me people from my school have gotten in with 3.6's and 3.7's, but when I look on here it seems like everyone has above a 4.0!!

I can't find anywhere on the website where it talks about GPAs but i found this: Over 55.4% graduated in the top decile (top 10%) of their high school class; 73.4% of the members of the Class graduated in the top two deciles (20%). I think maybe the people who have 4.0s have weighted GPAs. I know my GPA was about 4.22 on a weird scale that was mostly out of 4.5. Your 3.9 should definetely be fine. Good luck!!!
