<p>I might be doing a REU this summer at an university across the country. I'm not going to be able to talk to my REU adviser face to face in the Fall. So should I go talk to him about the recommendation letter at the end of the summer?</p>
<p>I didn’t think about it, but I e-mailed my REU adviser in the fall to ask for a recommendation letter and he was delighted to write it. If you remember it can be good to ask them at the end of the summer. But if you have to ask them by e-mail or over the phone after the summer’s over, there’s nothing wrong with that either.</p>
<p>Face to face at end of summer or email in fall are both fine, in my opinion. Either way you’ll need to send an email in the fall.</p>
