Well I am an international student applying as a freshman for Fall 2015 to MIT. It's kind of my dream university and I hope I have a decent academic profile too with 800s in Maths level 2 and Physics, and nearly 2250 in the SAT.
So I have almost completed the application form. I have my essays and LORs ready. But I am unsure as to how do I have to submit the LOR. I know that for the offline method, my teachers have to sign and post it to the admissions office, but I wish to go for the online method. I want to know if there are any specific requirements for the online method, such as an official e-mail address. Or simply the Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo ones will do?
Also, can my teachers from class 10th write my LOR? Or they strictly have to be from my 11th and 12th grade?

The online method is done through a system called Naviance. You fill out a form on the common app and invite your teachers to fill out a LOR from there. A school specific email is required.

Not every school participates in Naviance. You can have the instructor email the LoR to the school. Just have it clearly identify you, the applicant.

When you set up an MIT account, there is a place for you to put down your recommenders’ names and email addresses and MIT will send them an invitation to submit a recommendation. Since it’s getting close to the deadline, if you do that and they don’t get the request soon, then have them send it anyway with your identifying information.
