I applied to 4 UC’s and UCB is one of them, I submitted my app on the Nov 30th and I got an email on December 10th stating that after initial review of my application my application they would like to invite me to submit letters of recommendation to add to my admission application.
@SeniorSzn: Is there a question here or are you posting for informational purposes?
Oops forgot to add the questions lol
How often do people get asked for LoR? Is an automated email or do they actually review it and then ask for the rec letter? Are they actually considering me? For me UCB is a reach school my essays and gpa were very good but I was worried about my test scores
Only a small percentage of applicants will get a request for an LOR. Some applicants may be borderline, some may have listed unique EC’s and leadership positions, some may have referred to a hardship and some are high stat applicants but the bottom line is that UCB wants to know more about you so take advantage and make yourself shine.
From UCB’s website::::::
How are students selected to submit letter(s)?
We will request letters of some students if, after we initially review their applications, we feel additional information would be helpful in our selection process. Only a fraction of applicants will be selected to submit letters, and they can choose to submit letters or not to do so. Not doing so will not negatively impact the review.
@Gumbymom Thanks for the reply
Yes, not doing so will not negatively impact the review, but if you’ve got good LORs, they can certainly bolster your case. My D was asked for LORs the first year they did requested them, so it may have been more random then. She’s a junior Golden Bear. We will never know if she was truly borderline (stellar GPA and EC’s, ACT less so) or just luck of the draw she was selected, but now they definitely send them out to those in the Maybe pile. Get 'em and submit 'em. Good luck!!!
