So to keep a long story short.

I received a merit scholarship at the beginning of this year and had to maintain a certain GPA. I had an extremely rough year and unfortunately was not able to meet the GPA requirement and therefore lost my scholarship. I am very frustrated (among many other things) by this especially since it really came down to a few grades that didn’t work out in my favor. To save the rest of my sob story, can I get some advice on how to tackle this? Is there anything I can do? The financial aid office pretty much said the only thing I can do is to send in a letter appealing the decision and see what could happen from there. Other than that I’m really not sure what else to do.

Help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks everyone

What do you mean by a “rough year”? If it was health or family problems, that might work in an appeal. If you spent too much time partying, that won’t get you any sympathy (or money).

Explain your situation to the financial aid office if you can appeal.

Trust me, I’m not the party type. Pretty much I just fell short with grades and what not. I put in good effort and did what I was supposed to, but it just never seemed to work out the way I needed it to. My knowledge of the material was fine, I was just inconsistent with my grades. I know it sounds like bs, but it’s not why would I try to lie at this point? Alright enough venting. Anyways, I am able to appeal it so I’ll see what I can do. Thanks!

I don’t think financial aid has even gone out yet. Has anyone seen any aid on their student account? I know BU is barely putting things up on people’s student account. I didn’t even get the bill for the school year on my student account until a few days ago. Even if you lost your scholarship, did you get any kind of aid or do you have nothing up on your student account yet?

I knew a girl who was supposed to lose her scholarship, but spoke to financial aid and they put her on probation of a sort. She didn’t lose her scholarship for the year, provided she met the requirements in years following. You really just need to talk to fin aid…they can’t do anything if you don’t go in and explain yourself.
