Losing hope...

I was waitlisted at both Vanderbilt and Notre Dame today.

Is it absolutely crazy to keep hope alive for Dartmouth?

I was accepted to UCLA, Berkeley, and Northwestern already, but today has really caused me to lose hope...

Nope! You’ve been accepted by your fair share of competitive schools, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see a Dartmouth acceptance letter come your way too

Getting waitlisted at two schools that are less selective than Dartmouth is certainly not a positive indication of your chances. That being said…
College decisions are unpredictable, so I wouldn’t lose hope; but I wouldn’t be overly optimistic, either.

I know how you feel. I didn’t exactly have much hope for Dartmouth before. It was already a huge reach for me. But I got waitlisted at BC Friday and then rejected at Middlebury the next morning. So that killed my hope for Dartmouth. Oh well, I have a feeling that I’m going to be happy at Colgate!

I know how you feel! I thought Dartmouth was somewhat realistic for me but then I got waitlisted at Middlebury and Bowdoin so now I’m not feeling so confident! ahh this waiting is killing me!!!

I know what you’re feeling. I was accepted to Northwestern but waitlisted at Chicago, so that got me a little antsy about Dartmouth. Plus it’s my first choice, so…

Through this whole process I have learned just how unpredictable this stuff is. I got accepted to Swarthmore, and Chicago, and I got a likely from Duke, but I was waitlisted at WUSTL, Carleton and Bowdoin. If you haven’t watched this, you should:

Like I’ve said in other threads, adding to what metaphy6 posted, I got REJECTED at Northwestern but got a LL to Darmouth…

Feel free to expect the worst, but NEVER lose hope.

My son got waitlisted at a safety and got a LL from Dartmouth and Cornell. You NEVER know!!! Have hope!!!

Waitlisted at Swathmore yesterday and rejected at Stanford today. Hoping that tomorrow is a 3rd times the charm deal. Good luck!!

With so many of the same people applying to the same schools (this year more than ever), the results are REALLY random. Never lose hope!

Waitlisted at McKenna and UChicago. Rejected at Swarthmore and Stanford.
I have no hope.

Waitlisted at Northwestern and WUSTL, rejected by Pomona and Vanderbilt. I’m hoping for a miracle Wednesday.

Good luck everyone

accepted at WashU, ND, Colgate and W&M, Wait listed at Vandy, Bowdoin and Middleburry really worried about Dartmouth and my remaining schools! I V is right though as I see many of the same names on the CC board lists for my schools. Lots of luck!

The combination of acceptances, rejections, and waitlists for most competitive candidates can be hard to fathom. Remember that elite LACs, in particular, just don’t have that many places to give out. I know a kid who was waitlisted at Swat and Williams and rejected at Georgetown, but accepted at D, the U of C and Pomona, amongst other places. I know another kid who was waitlisted by the U of C, but got in the Walsh School at Georgetown and is an Echolls Scholar with a likely from UVa. I know another kid who was accepted at H and P, but waitlisted at D.

Don’t let it get you down. You have acceptances from some great schools already!

yeah, waitlist for us at Bowdoin to was a shocker as stats were like 200 points over SAT avg. and gpa etc.-what ever…schools that have wait list I and wait list II have so few slots left that its really a matter of the last RD spots are not the same level of competition IMHO—in fact my D got rejected from Wesleyan-who solicited her to begin with with offers of diamonds and furs-lol…its confusing, but she got into BC, Cornell so far so who knows…as deferred from Dartmouth I am not too hopeful…they seem like they do not like students who do many things well but prefer students who do a couple of things very well—that is not necessarily a recipe for success as some kids find their passion later- my D is only 17…its all so arbitrary IMHO–feel good whatever happens…

Thank you to everyone for the positive energy. I’ve been accepted!

Congratulations!!! I was rejected, but I’m okay with it. But once again, congrats!
