Hey so I'm taking AP euro and I've been assigned a couple pages to read in the textbook. The problem is I start reading (I understand it) then slowly half way through I sort of just "read" it without understanding it or just losing interest.

Not just history but other things, and no I don't have ADHD or anything like that.

Any tips to help me? What do you do? listen to music, read in mornings, etc??

God this happens to me all the time it gets annoying. I would say find a quiet place and get quasi comfortable. Try to complete anything else the might distract you before you start to read. Yeah sorry if this is no help. Good luck.

@jdroidxw,
I’ve had this happen to me while I’m reading my math textbook (I dislike math). I deal with it by taking a break for 15 minutes to stretch, and getting a drink of ice water. This helps a lot. Then, just get back to the reading.

I read the material out loud. Also try to picture what your reading in a funny way. For example, imagining an american in a fist fight with Hitler to symbolize the outcome of WWII. I find images like this stick in my mind and keep me entertained. I also read here on CC that reading out loud with an accent helps you focus. I don’t know if there is any truth to that, but it’s worth a shot. Hope this helps!

It might not be a way to manage time, but whenever you feel this happening, you could simply get up, get something to drink, work on other work, go outside, etc. Do something that distracts your mind.

Music also apparently helps people focus. So does chewing gum? You might try that.

If I have to read something boring, I find a nice, quiet place far away from ANY electronic devices. I happen to live 5 minutes from a really nice state park with lots of trails. If you just isolate yourself completely from distractions, focusing on uninteresting reading becomes a lot easier.

I listen to music while i read.

Thanks everyone I’ll try all those

happens to me too!
I just…dont end up reading it and read the outlines instead :P

Different situations are responsible for losing interest in the reading of the books.So you can play music after reading sometime.Also you can take some break after reading.Recall the subjects when you are reading.It will help you for remembering your lessons easily.
