I had some questions about weight in college

Does the walking help you lose weight a lot?
Do a lot of people become lazy or do they take advantage of athletic facilities?
Do you get hungry often at first on the meal plan?
Do you like college food and is there any healthy stuff?
Do most people lose or gain weight?
Has anyone ever become malnutritioned in college because of the change?

What are your experiences with weight in college..?

Walking: depends on your calorie intake, certainly doesn’t hurt
Activity level: no idea, why does it matter though?
Hunger: Sorta
Weight: I think most people might gain a little
Malnutritioned: Nope but maybe i could see that happening to someone with an allergy or such

When my friend went to college he was 6’6’’ and weighed 250 pounds. Needless to say he was a beast. After he returned during summer break he was down to 170 pounds and looked like a stick. Take it as you will. He said he couldn’t afford to eat, and only had 1 meal a day. Sometimes he had to skip meals.

I didn’t lose or gain weight, really, nor did my exercise change much. Depends on the person, and how much they take advantage of the food and/or gym.

I lost weight, even with all the junk food but those umm…study aids probably didn’t help much, haha! As long as you don’t go crazy and eat like you did at home, or drink like a fish, you probably aren’t gonna have to worry much!

I think I’ll end up losing weight. The school is in the middle of nowhere, the only fast food place within walking/biking distance (unless you’re freakin’ Lance Armstrong) is a Chipotle that I don’t eat often and I won’t have a car so I’ll be walking or biking everywhere I want to go. And there convenience of having a gym right there instead of driving somewhere or my CC is a major turn off to going.

I gained weight freshman year and then lost it sophomore year. sometimes i forget to eat if im at summer vacation spots like vegas with my friends.

I MAKE MYSELF TAKE THE STARIS TO EVERY CLASS

It depends? My first year was really busy so I lost weight, even though I’m sure I ate enough, and my second year was pretty chilled so I gained some… but literally that was 2-3lbs.

I gained the typical freshman 15 due to drinking a lot and dorm food (it was really hard to find healthy stuff). But I’ve gotten on a pretty intense workout schedule and I’ll be cooking my own food next year so I plan on losing weight.

Does the walking help you lose weight a lot?
Yes. My weight didn’t change, but only because my walking went up along with the number of calories I consumed.

Do a lot of people become lazy or do they take advantage of athletic facilities?
It seemed like it was pretty directly related to how far you lived from the gym, unless you were on a team, a diet, or already a gym rat.

Do you get hungry often at first on the meal plan?
I had an unlimited plan. This meant that I’d wind up going to the dining hall several times with different people to talk or to procrastinate even if I’d already eaten. Primary cause of my calorie increase.

Do you like college food and is there any healthy stuff?
I liked it at first, but I got tired of it three or four months in. There’s healthy stuff, but usually not much variety.

Do most people lose or gain weight?
I’d say most people gained a little, but I didn’t see anyone balloon up. Most people recognized emerging problems and adjusted accordingly midway through the year.

Has anyone ever become malnutritioned in college because of the change?
I don’t know of anyone, but I could see it happening if you aren’t responsible enough to eat some veggies or not blow your meal points on fast food.

Does the walking help you lose weight a lot?
-I walked two miles uphill to school and two miles back downhill. I lost like fifteen pounds.

Do a lot of people become lazy or do they take advantage of athletic facilities?
-It really depends on the person. If you’re lazy in highschool, you’ll probably be lazy in college.

Do you like college food and is there any healthy stuff?
-You can get healthy food anywhere. It might just not be what you want to eat.

Do most people lose or gain weight?
-I lost weight, but there’s a reason there’s a term for the “freshman fifteen”.

Has anyone ever become malnutritioned in college because of the change?
-If someone becomes malnutritioned while they’re on the meal plan, it’s probably because they’re following the “pizza and soft serve diet”. Eat real food. Aim for a salad a day (one that doesn’t have the words potato or macaroni in it), and don’t smother it with a high fat dressing. Eat fruit for snacks, and try new things like falafel, hummus, and soba. You don’t have to gorge yourself on high-fat foods just because no one is monitoring what you eat.

i lost it, however i did take the elvator to classes because my school is like one big hill and my knees couldn’t handle the stairs after that hike.

I’ll probably lose weight, I’ll be walking everywhere and probably won’t eat as much…if I do happen to gain weight, however, it’ll be due to the fact that there is a gym literally across the street from my dorm :P

Does the walking help you lose weight a lot? Yes. How much walking there is depends on the school though.

Do a lot of people become lazy or do they take advantage of athletic facilities? Depends on the person. A lot of people do of course, but there are just as many people who don’t.

Do you get hungry often at first on the meal plan? I don’t really get any hungrier than I did before college lol

Do you like college food and is there any healthy stuff? It completely depends on the school. My current college is alright, but not great. However, the college I hope to transfer to in the spring has excellent food.

Do most people lose or gain weight? Freshman 15. Its after freshman year that most people lose weight.

Has anyone ever become malnutritioned in college because of the change? Not to my knowledge.

What are your experiences with weight in college…? I definitely put on a few pounds last year and then towards the end of the 2nd semester I became more active and lost weight.

I ended up losing nearly 10 pounds in the first couple weeks of school as a combination of me disliking the cafeteria food, and a lot of walking that I wasn’t as used to. I was slightly underweight at the beginning of the year, so losing 10 pounds was a big deal. I ended up having to find clothes from middle school to wear if I didn’t want to wear a belt. Glad I gained it back. It’s a personal thing. I had predicted that I would lose weight and the freshman 15 seemed impossible to me. If anything, I would say I had a freshman net +2, which puts me at a healthier weight than I started college with. Started using the gym my spring semester, which helped me relax, but didn’t really affect my weight. But I definitely saw a trend of people using the rec center more often to prepare for spring break and as a new years resolution. Well, that and my roommate was in PT after tearing her ACL for the 3rd time or so…
