Ok, heres my dilemma. I currently attend the University of San Francisco, I have just completed one year there and got decent grades. I am from New Jersey and am trying to eventually transfer to San Diego State. USF was alright, but I wasn't entirely happy there, and now to make matters worse I got screwed out of a good living situation for next year. I don't know whether to stay in SF for another semester and have the chance of being miserable, or attend Santa Monica College. (which is a community college but has a high transfer rate for UC and state schools) Basically my question is will going from a private university to a community college by choice (there are financial reasons as well) not by force look bad, and will I have just as good as a chance to get into SDSU or another state school by going to SMC for a semester or should I just stick it out?

If your heart is set on SDSU I would definitely transfer to a CCC. They have 1st priority when it comes to transfer students and since you’re coming from a private university your transfer priority would be very low if you stayed at USF.

On top of that, if your goal is San Diego State, then I would not go to SMC, I would go to a CC in the San Diego area. CCs in the SD area have priority over the CC applicants in areas of CA. Furthermore, SDSU does TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) only with CCs in SDSU’s service area. For more info:

Can you kindly PM me what you don’t like at USF? Cuz I’m planning to transfer there next year or so. I’m coming from a UC and completely hated the teaching style at my school. If I would do this all over again, I will NOT apply to any large research Universities out there because they treat undergrad students like a number. What is that financial reasons if you don’t mind tell me. Thanks!

yes that helps a bunch actually, thank you!
