I’m not really sure what to do at this point. I’m attending a community college and would be ready for transfer in spring or fall next year, but I just found out that my financial aid has been pulled effective immediately. I was under the impression that this semester was already paid for, but now I’ve been told I’ll have to have the money for the entire semester by November.
Admittedly, I wasted a few hours ten years ago straight out of high school being dumb. Other than that, the only reason I’ve come close to the maximum hours is because of the many pre-reqs I had to take to get to my degree coursework (20 credit hours!). I understand the buck stops with me, but I feel like one of the many advisors I see on a regular basis, and who have had my college details in front of them, should have at least brought this possibility to my attention.
Anyways, I think I may have just wasted the past year and a half by returning to school, only to get to this point. I have a great GPA, enrolled in the honors program, and have been invited to join Phi Theta Kappa. There’s no way I can keep up the same quality of study because I’m going to have to work more than I already am.
Any tips or words of encouragement are super appreciated.
Most of my family has either run into rough times, or isn’t of the type that lends money. My partner already pays mortgage and bills. I work something called postmates (Uber for food) whenever I have spare time. I was just hoping that paying out of pocket wasn’t the only option.
lost most of my network after a move. I don’t know where to start on finding a paying gig related to my major here. That department is kind of lacking at my school.
The OP explained…he took courses years ago. So now he has taken too many CC courses to be allowed to continue to receive aid. And he had 20 prerequisite hours as well.
I don’t know how many credits he has taken in total…but financial aid isn’t given forever. There is an expectation that one will move on within a reasonable number of credits.
@WaHeezy how many credits have you taken this far?
@thumper1
that’s right
Including the current semester I’m at 72 hours attempted. The degree program I’m in includes a bunch of classes I don’t need for where I’m transferring ( calcIII, diffeq, an engineering physics). They are saying I couldn’t finish all of those before I’d reach 150% of hours, even though I plan on transferring and don’t need them.
@mom2collegekids
I usually end up < 15 hours a week
Completed 40 something toward my degree ( not including pre-reqs)
Completed 66 total ish
(had to drop calc I, didn’t realize how much it’d suck. Passed with a B the next semester)
I’ve only borrowed around $3000. There’s been an issue with my FA almost every semester and I’ve had to pay out of pocket. The problem now is that my coursework is so massive and difficult I haven’t been able to work as much as I have in the past.
