I recieved a letter from the cb this morning informing me that my free response for this year's calc AB exam has been lost. I've been given the chance to: -recieve an approximated grade based on my multiple choice,
-retake an alternate free response test,
-or cancel my scores.
Just wondered if this has ever happened to anyone else, and if anyone has any advice.

i'd say project the score off of MC if you think you did well... this years FR was a killer and i'd think that your mc score would be better by itself than if they included the fr as well... lets say you get 40/54 on the MC... you'd prolly get a 4/5 on the exam... when if they included fr based on this years fr... say you get 20 pts... so you'd have a 60/54 which might be good enough for a 5... but maybe only a 4.... i think only taking the MC as long as you feel you did OK would be the best option.

If you think you aced the MC, go for the approximation. Otherwise...it's up to you.

I would have College Board let you know what your grade would be based only on the MC, then give you the chance to keep or cancel the grade based on how you did... They will probably not agree to that because cancellations can only occur when you do so BEFORE you see your grade... but they really messed up big on this one! I would try that for sure. And consider having them note on your record exactly what happened with them losing your FRQs, for college apps, etc. (unless you LOVE the grade you end up with !!) Good luck!!
