Lost Soul Need of Guidance

Hi I'm attending St.Johns University in the Fall as a Freshman. I'm currently undecided. I kind of like st.johns but do to not dorming and communting. I feel like I should transfer I always wanted to go away for school but was unable to. I wanted to know when I should look into transfering? Also where can I find out more about majors I'm kind of interested in pharmacy, sports medicine and business right now. The schools I'm thinking of transfering to are Maryland CP, Ohio state, Temple, UVA. I want to go to a school with good academics standing very diverese, okay greek life and alot of social gathering between different ethnic groups.
My high school stats
GPA 2.3
SATS 1430/2400
Lower 50%

When you want to transfer is completely up to you. You can transfer as a sophmore or a junior. If you are planning to be a sophmore transfer, start researching the schools you are interested in now and look at their transfer policies and deadlines. The most important thing is to keep a high college GPA.

there are a few important things to consider when thinking about transferring.

the more units/credits of college work you have completed, the less weight the universities you are applying to will put on your high school work. if you apply for sophmore admission, the schools don't have much college work to make a good decision as they only have one semester worth of work to review so they will go back and review your high school record.

I would recommend applying for junior admission your 2nd year with a solid academic record and stronger University GPA.

For schools with high selectivity, allow yourself time to build a great resume with a solid GPA, rigorous curriculum (consider enrolling in an honours program if your uni offers one), and extra curricular involvement.

Should I remain undecided until I transfer. Also my first semester has 14 credits and I beleive 2 of my classes are religion classes which I doubt will transfer to a public university. I really want to be a sophomore transfer what can I do to increase my chances and my resume. Like even if I had a 3.5+ gpa I still would have a hard time right cause of my college record

To increase your chances, the very best things you can do are:[ul][]Attain the highest GPA you are capable of. Have fun, but establish a routine for yourself where adequate study time is planned in.[li]Get to know some professors well. Perform well in their classes. Speak up in class. Visit them during office hours. Having good prof recommendations is important for transfer.[]Research the schools you are interested in carefully so that your essays are tailored to each school. [*]Consider re-take of the SAT. Many (most/all?) colleges consider your highest SAT score even if taken after college coursework. Take courses in your first year which could help improve your scores (writing intensive, reading intensive courses and a math course).[/ul]
[/li]

It's true your hs record will follow you, but you can overcome the deficiencies there by performing well at St. John's.

It is possible that your religion classes will transfer; lots of schools have theology/philosophy/comparative religion courses which might equate. If not, I wouldn't worry about it - if you choose to transfer, finding the right school is the most important thing; if some credits don't transfer, you can make it up.

You don't have to remain "Undecided" re your major (I think that's what you mean) in order to transfer. Decide when you are ready - before or after.

Most schools have transfer app deadlines in March, but there are differences. Concentrate on doing really well at St. John's during the fall term. You can focus on transfer apps in January/February...

To find out about those majors, go to the school websites you've mentioned, find those departments and read about the depts/faculty/courses. I think collegeboard.com also has descriptions of various majors/career opportunities in them, etc.

You might turn out to be very happy at St. John's. If not, follow the suggestions on this thread and good luck.

If I do decide to transfer when do I have to start repaying my loans to st.johns?? When i graduate from the school I transfered to or 6 months after I transfer from st.johns
