Is Carnegie Mellon known for giving good financial aid to not so wealthy families? My EFC is between 5000-8000. How much should I expect? Has anyone received they're financial aid letter and comment on how generous the financial aid is?

I don’t have my letter yet, but they’re notoriously bad on financial aid :

I haven’t got mine yet either but they do not have the best reputation for giving lots of money.

granted, an EFC of 5-8000 isn’t much so maybe CMU will help out :)

CMU’s financial aid package was considerably lower than another college I applied to with comparable tuition. (About 13k lower.) However, my EFC is in the 20k range so you might get lucky.

Was their aid mainly loans or do they give grants? I’m not counting on merit aid i guess

I love CMU but why are they so expensive?!?! really!?!? aaaahhhh

EDIT: sorry, expressing my frustration

My EFC for CMU was better than that for the FAFSA, but the difference between them was made up by loans, I guess it wasn’t too bad, but our EFC for FAFSA was kind of unrealistic.
