Well, this week has been filled with a lot of goodness for my son, and I have to share a bit of it! Today has been a day of hugs, with good news from Swarthmore and from Brown. He had heard Monday that he got into Pomona, and within the two weeks previous to that, got a full ride to Rhodes and into Sewanee. The rejection from Yale, also today, of course, was couched in so much happiness, I don't think he felt it.

So I am basking in the hugs and good feelings. This process has been so much more fun because I have been able to share it with you, my friends on CC.

Wow!! Congratulations to you and your son...what an impressive group of accept's...never has it been so incredibly clear as this week just how "crapshoot" the crapshoot schools are...so glad to hear the Yale reject is rolling off your backs...will be so interested to hear about the final choice...it's an incredible set of choices...enjoy this success...it's so great!

I am so proud of your son and he is not even mine, lol. Really, he cleaned up. I think the Yale result could not have stung so much amongst such riches. I hope he has fun deciding among his wonderful choices. If ya have any questions about Brown, you know where to find me.

Swarthmore and Brown?????? WashU?????How about a cyberdance? The cyberPony? Oh wait, too dated. The cybertap. Yes. So many congratulations and so much celebration.

You are really having a joyous year, a wedding for your daughter and some wonderful acceptances for your son. You must be so proud of both of them (all 3, but we have heard about the great things that child # 3 has done-yet).

I am so TOTALLY thrilled for your obviously very gifted and immensely talented son! Oh my!!!! What well-deserved and awesome GREAT news! It's funny...I feel the pride for these kids as if they were another of my own (who would notice an extra in my house anyway??). Now the fun part....the decision!! Keep us posted, O.K.

Many hugs and pats on the back for your son! ~berurah

We never visited because the logistics from New England really didn't make that much sense, but I have been impressed by everything I've read and heard about Pomona. I think their model (five LACs sharing infrastructure to achieve the combined scale of a mid-size University) is not only interesting, but probably better for undergrad education than what Pomona would have become had it become a mid-size University.

People tend to group Swarthmore with Williams/Amherst, but I tend to think that Swarthmore and Pomona are actually more similar and may share more of the same applicant pool, but in settings with very different cultures, old East Coast versus suburban SoCal. Ran into the mother of a Pomona junior arriving for a semester at Swat during orientation last fall. The two schools have a reciprocal exchange program. I keep dropping hints to my daughter about that program. There seemed to be a lot of Pomona, Harvey Mudd, and Swarthmore overlap among the kids my D met at Ride the Tide last year as well.

A good college friend of my wife has a son who is freshman at Pomona this year and, from all reports, likes it a lot.

Oh wow - I am so happy for sonofthree! Those are amazing schools; I look forward to hearing about the decision process (now that it's on your side). So many colleges, so many t-shirts.

Daughter and I went to a presentation last year of Swarthmore, Pomona, Carleton and Bowdoin. Swarthmore and Pomona definitely had the same kind of feel. (Of course, D preferred Carleton and Bowdoin!)

momofthree, Great choices! Congratulations to you and your son. My son has close friends at all three, Brown, Swarthmore and Pomona. What a wonderful position to be in to have to choose among those terrific schools.

Congratulations! My D also considered B, S and P. I am sure your S will be happy wherever he ends up - but I can understand why he liked those! Enjoy the celebrations!

It is so wonderful to see all who have worked so hard and been so patient get such great returns. Congratulations! Obviously, your son needn't worry about Yale! Their loss, not his.
