Lots of short term research projects vs. internship at university lab?

I’m interested in pursuing either neuroscience or genetics in the future and I was wondering what the better option would be: This summer I can either do a 6 week research program meant for high schoolers to conduct their own projects OR I can intern at a lab at NYU. Both sound amazing to me, so I was wondering which would be more beneficial in getting into a university for STEM? I will likely be doing genetic research during my junior school year, so I’m leaning towards the internship, but since it’s most likely that the internship is only a few days a week, I wasn’t sure if this would be an ideal option for summer.

The internship sounds a little less defined. It could be great, or you could wash test tubes or biopsy rat tails all summer. I’d probably encourage my kid to do the summer program if cost, location, etc weren’t a burden.
