Lottery as a Junior

I have a few questions about the lottery. I have a daughter who is a rising junior who has signed up for the lottery. I am concerned because her current roomate that she wishes to room with again, is studying abroad for the first semester. I was wondering how this will work for her when she does not have a roomate for first semester. I think that she has made an attempt to find someone who will be studying abroad second semester so they can room with her but she has not found anyone. How does this work in terms of the lottery and getting a room?

Find someone, or they will give you a transfer. If you can find someone that is doing next spring semester abroad, that would work as far as getting your roommate back again in the spring.

I am not sure what you mean by transfer. Do you know of any nice, well maintained apartment complexes near the college?

On the W&M housing site ,parents can access the off-campus housing lists. Thats a good place to start. Also, The Virginia Gazette online has real estate listings that include links to local rental agencies. Here you can look at available rentals. As with any apartment rental, I would look for reviews regarding safety, cleanliness, updated or not. A couple of apartment complexes we were looking at last year as possibiities for our student were Peppertree and Spring Roads apartments. These were close enough to walk/bike. There are nice complexes farther out too but a car may be needed.

They may house you with a transfer student, ie not a freshman.
