Hi Coralbrook,
These are the three (3) people you and your D should concentrate on contacting for resolution and understanding:
Robert Bassett
Professor and Dean at Dodge College
(714) 997-6715
bassett@chapman.edu
Michael Kowalski
Professor and Associate Dean, Academic Affairs at Dodge College
(714) 628-7388
kowalski@chapman.edu
Alexandra Rose
Professor in Creative Producing
(714) 744-7941
arose@chapman.edu
Because it is summer and availability may be a problem I would try all three.
D was able to talk to someone in the Academic Advising office today who didn’t seem to be surprised at all that she does not have an Academic Advisor assigned in the new myChapman system. They specifically told her that Joe Barrett was the Specialist Academic Advisor for Creative Producing in Dodge. The office was kind of nasty and said "you can find your advisor on the Creative Producing Advisor page. Unfortunately the Advisor listed is Barbara Doyle who is the ‘Chair’ and, per receptionist, doesn’t have anything to do with the Academic Advising.
Phone call to Joe Barrett and, after an explanation of the transfer/no mapping of classes/prerequisite problem, the receptionist told her that Joe Barrett is not who she should talk to. She was referred to someone named Eric Young. She is now emailing Eric Young and hopes for some response in the next couple of days.
She would be too shy to start emailing Robert Bassett, the Dean or the Associate Dean at this point.
Hi Coralbrook,
This morning when I was researching and preparing the list above for your D to contact I saw that Barbara Doyle was the chair of Dodge College Creative Producing major and the Creative Producing advisor last year. But now she is the Chair of Motion Pictures at Belmont University. This recent move by Barbara Doyle probably explains many of the problems you have faced because Dodge College was determining who would take her place at the same time your D were looking for advisement.
Eric Young is a Professor and the Chair of the Dodge College Film Division . Just in case he can’t solve all your D problems you have my back up list. I think that Professor Alexandra Rose is a good person for your D to talked to regarding the particulars of the Creative Producing classes.
Thank you for the info on Barbara Doyle. That is probably the reason that they haven’t re shuffled the advisors for her major. Add that it is summer and then add that they are trying to move everyone to a new system. For example, new students (freshman or transfers) don’t even have access to the WebAdvisor system. They are instructed to go straight into myChapman which is a new Peoplesoft system that is also handling faculty and staff. It’s very confusing getting into it.
Thank you for the links. It appears that Eric Young must be the new Film Division Chair
D is waiting patiently for a response from Eric Young. Basically, we just need someone to send an email to Registrar’s Office that will allow her to enroll in upper division classes
Meanwhile, the Registrar’s Office called her today and asked why she was not enrolled as a full time student. Uhhh, because the system won’t let me enroll in any classes!
I wanted to give some closure to our dilemma. Today we drove 2 hours up to Chapman because we were signing a lease for my Ds apartment - her first apartment… very exciting for her. I forced her to go into Registrar’s Office for the 2nd time. Luckily no one was there and the young woman spent a lot of time helping solve all the problems. My D didn’t get anywhere the last time she went in to the office and we haven’t gotten anywhere with phone calls.
It all boils down to trying to find Eric Young. He is now on vacation and will be back next week. My D was able to confirm a telephone appointment with him for Thursday Aug 13th which is cutting it close because tuition is due Aug 20th for her and the tuition is all messed up. She has to get him, and him only, to either a) assign an advisor to her or b) fill out her schedule and email into the Registrar’s Office to release the pre requisite requirements out of the system.
There is nothing else she can do to try to fix it at this point.
Meanwhile her lost transcript was found… it’s sitting in the old Web Advisor system and cannot get moved into the new myChapman system because the classes taken at Study Abroad (which are Chapman Class IDs) have not even been moved into the new myChapman system so there is no way to log the credits or classes. Noone had been able to explain this until we sat at the Registrar’s Office today and found the right person.
