I know one school is putting posting about it around campus saying just that.

Does any else's college have this, I've been seeing a lot of buzz about this lately.

I know one school is putting posting about it around campus saying just that.

Does any else's college have this, I've been seeing a lot of buzz about this lately.

One school is doing this, or one school is permitting a group of students to do this?

Two very different things.

The latter.

Haven’t seen it

I’d post the link but they don’t let us post links here

“Love your race, support the Black Student’s Union.” - Everyone’s happy
“Love your race, support the White Student’s Union.” - OMG that’s so racist I can’t believe the school allows that.

Calling reverse racism, huh?

Racism is racism.

If a group of students want a White Student’s Union and they open it to all people, then let them go for it.

I mean, all groups on campus at my university (including the ones designed for minorities) are open to all students despite their names or focuses.

**There is no such thing as reverse racism. Period. **

Racism is racism.

I’d have to see the story before commenting further.

Personally, I think “love your race” is stupid anyway. Connecting with people solely on the color of your skin is very superficial. You might love your ethnicity, your language, etc but to go as superficial as skin color has never appealed to me. Maybe it’s because my skin color doesn’t reflect my heritage.

But that’s the thing , there are really none… a white one would be a first. Black is basically an ethnicity because when blacks came here as slaves they were all mixed so they don’t know what part of Africa they came from so they just say black. A black student union just refers to an African-american student union.

how is a black student union offensive? is an east Asian one offensive too?

romaingyp, for some who claims to have studied anthropology you don’t seem to have a clear understanding on race and skin color.

Is St. Patricks day offensive? Do you think anything regarding celebrating others people’s culture of lower esteem? Should we all be blind of culture?

I decided to delete my posts. I don’t feel like getting involved with this topic.

Culture =/= race.

I’m done here. I’ll follow vlad’s lead. Your whole point was to start this debate, not to discuss the group you “cited” (at the very least you could have said the school as a google search seems to be turning up squat for me), so I’ll leave it at that.

The same is true for most white folks. They come from many different areas across Europe.

By and large in today’s America, no matter what your skin color is, you’re a mutt. I’m white, but I’ve got German, Whelsh, Native American, Spanish, French, and a plethora of other things in me. My other friend who is white is mostly Polish and Italian. We’re the same color, but have different backgrounds. It’s the same as blacks in America having different African backgrounds.

Also, African Americans can actually be white and European Americans can be black.

The point I was trying to make is that it is easier for a white person to identify with a region of Europe you can easily state the countries of Europe. Pretty much every black person has to say “black people” they can’t say what country in Africa they came from.

“My other friend who is white is mostly Polish and Italian.”

See right there you can say that and each of those regions have different cultures that you can delve into and study, a black person in American cannot do that.

" African Americans can actually be white"

No.

See, that’s a touchy subject. I know a couple of people who are white immigrants from South Africa. However, they are of course descended from European colonists.

I really don’t like using [blank]-American for people who are several generations removed from being immigrants, but to each their own I suppose.

Yeah I think there’s just a stigma about groups of the white race getting together and “loving their race”. There’s clearly nothing wrong with it. If its okay for other races it should be okay for white people but I think the past hurts that
