So I have been going through all these threads and see way too many overqualified applicants got rejected this year!!!! So just curious what do you expect this years acceptance rate and yield rate to be?? Its really hard to say what the criteria was this year and why it seemed more qualified applicants got rejected this year. If I had to make a theory, I would say that ELC change this year caused more people to be rejected as well as the budget cuts causing UCI to reject more in state applicants. It also seems that the UCI weighs UC GPA and the essay a lot this time much more than ECs and test scores.

Just curious what are your opinions on UCI admissions this year?

My son was rejected by some UCs we thought he’d easily get in. The state has no money, international and out-of-state kids do, it’s a no-brainer for CA kids…you’re out!

I just think we should wait and see after…because at this point you can’t know for sure what the acceptance rate is…not everyone who applied is on college confidential…

I know that college confidential only represents a fraction of the applicant pool but it just seems weirder this year with much more rejections than I seemed to expect, especially looking at last year’s thread. Once again my theory was that UCI’s budget cuts, elimination as an ELC school, and maybe desire to gain more prestige by increasing yield rates maybe. See since UCI doesnt have to guarantee admission to anyone they were probably gonna accept more OOS and international students and would only accept in-state students who would SIR if accepted

@noor
are you UCI freshman??
If so, most of the decisions came out on the weekend for freshmen students.
Then again most them were CA residents so i dont know
