Low ACT score...am I screwed?

You have a pretty solid chance of getting in as an instate applicant. Not great, but solid. Try to get your SAT score up, though. 1850 is pretty weak unless you're good at throwing a football or melanin-gifted.

I agree with Cav 302, and might I add that I just love your humor--Cav!
Congrats to you, theoneandonlynat--you've been working hard on improving those scores and it shows. I do believe that you are a contender for UVA!

You're just a junior?? Chill out for a year.

thanks for the input! I know the score isn't GREAT but I'm just glad I brought it up. Do you guys think I should take 2 subject tests or the SAT again? I'm stuck with only one test date left :-/. Oh and I'm a Senior, drd0013.

2 subject tests

it's really hard for us to estimate your chances of gaining admissions to UVa because so much comes into account.

if you're worried about your standardized test scores, retake it until you feel more confident. the benefit with the act, then, is that you get to choose which scores to send to UVa and which ones not to; theoretically, you could take it 8 times and only send them 1 score and for all UVa would know, you got that score on your first attempt. with the SAT, however, all score reports from all testing dates will be sent to UVa. it is possible, then, that it will not be in your favor to take the SAT a million times in hopes of doing better.

it will realistically be easier for you to raise your ACT score than your SAT score because the ACT is generally speaking easier to study for.

if you're a junior, be sure you will have strong rec letters.

if you're really a strong candidate, talk to your GC about the jefferson scholars program. as a national finalist last year, i can confidently tell you that charisma, charm, poise, attitude, and an all-around good person will get you very far in that program. while the final result may have more to do with stats and standing than the foundation will lead you to believe, it's definitely worht looking into.

Hey thanks for the reply! I'm going to take the ACT again. And I wish I was a junior but nopes I'm a senior! The jeffersons scholars is an awesome program but sadly the candidate has already been chosen at my school, tough luck I guess.
