Low ACT scores at top colleges?

Why do competitive colleges have much lower mean ACT scores than SAT scores? For example, Harvard's mean SAT scores are from 1400-1590, whereas their ACT scores range from only 30-34.

I wonder the same thing as well. I'm assuming the answer is "the ACT is a less popular exam." On the princetonreview site, The ACT mean for Dartmouth is a 30, while the Brown mean is a 28. I don't know, go figure.

so will this give ACT test takers an advantage?

becuase all the retard athletes take the act

Why do "retard athletes" take the ACT instead of SAT.

not necessarly. I have a pretty high average and I took the ACT

A high majority of the "smarter" population only takes the SAT. Therefore, the ACT stats are largely skewed.

Good scores on the ACT are often way harder to get because of the ridiculously harsh curves.

"Retard athletes" is such a stereotype. ACT has a crazy time contraint so I dont see how someone with a learning deficiency would so better than they would do on the SAT.

its just much harder to get higher scores on the act. a 30 act is still like 99th percentile. also, its not just "retarded athletes" who take the act. we midwesterners take it too, and I don't think we're all "retard athletes" ;)

Also midwesterners have an easier time getting into ivies and NE schools because they are underrepresented. I saw on Upenn's site they had 1 person from a couple states, like Montana and wyoming.

1510-1550 34
1460-1500 33
1410-1450 32
1360-1400 31

1320-1350 30
or
34 1520
33 1470
32 1420
31 1380

30 1340

Source: Collegeboard.
"Equivalent scores are those with the same percentile ranks for a common group of test takers. "
"SAT I scores do not cover the full range of the ACT scale due to differences in how percentiles are distributed at the top and bottom of the two scales. "
Kinda conflicting statements, so its hard to tell.

IS Texas a "midwest state"

But like almost no one lives in Wyoming and Montanta, lol. Texas is a big state, I'm guessing the numbers aren't to low there.

A 32 is in the 99 percentile, so anything above 30 is a good score.
