I recently took the ACT and got a 28 composite (I plan on retaking it since I got a 30 on a mock exam and know I can do better). However, I got a 16 on the writing portion which really shocked me. I am by no means an amazing writer and looking back, I can see how my essay could have been a bit off topic but writing is one of my strong suits and I doubt my score should be that low. I’ve been reading a lot of news articles about many students scoring low writing scores after the ACT re-did the scoring level and sending in for a rescore and getting higher points back.
Should I pay to have them rescore it? I am just thoroughly confused.
I’m in the same boat as you. I scored a 28 composite and a 17 writing.
Google scoring issues with ACT writing rubric.
If $50 doesn’t break the bank, I’d have it re-scored. Worst comes to worse, you lose $50 (ACT cannot lower your score). Best case scenario: your score goes up and it cost you nothing (ACT refunds it if it changes).
Study for it. Writing is easy to improve on (aside from the essay). All you need to do is learn some grammar rules and tricks like paralellism.
@sattut ACT writing = essay.
Rescore it. There have been many issues with the writing section recently.
please take a look at my post. I’m in the same boat as you and I feel that my writing was scored incorrectly.
