I just got a 35 composite on the June ACT, but only an 18 on the writing section. I plan on applying to elite schools, some of which require the ACT with writing (Ivies, Michigan, Duke). I’ve heard the writing score is not taken too seriously, although I don’t know if I should retake the ACT to get a better writing score; I was unprepared for the first writing sitting. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks!
No, it doesn’t matter.
Agree. Writing score doesn’t matter. Your 35 matters. Congrats on that great score. The writing score scale is changing again in Sept, and most colleges know the hot mess that the ACT Essay has been over the last year (you can read about 10 gazillion threads further down the page for more info). Only take the ACT again if you want the challenge of getting a 36. Otherwise, work on those real college essays!
Thank you! I am excited to continue working through the application process!
