Hello,
So basically AMC's have not gone so well for me these past two years. I got in the 100's for my amc10 in 8th grade, got 94 9th grade and then after that in 10th grade and 11th I got in the mid 80's. I really love math and science and I don't think my math ability decreased as I took even harder math classes, but it was more that I just performed badly during my two last amc's. The MIT application only gives me place to put down one amc12 score. Should I put down my 9th grade score, my latest 11th grade score, or omit it all together because both are too low. The 9th grade score is my higher one but I feel that if I didn't put down my 11th grade score it would see I lacked a passion for math and didn't want to take the AMC anymore after 9th grade.

sorry to hack the thread! i have a similar question - i had the second highest AMC score in my school last year (and highest in my class) but I think its still low for MIT people (92-ish i think but i’d have to check) so I’m not sure whether I should even mention that I was second highest in my school…

Which ones are AMC12? 94 is a decent score on the AMC12. Put down the highest one you have on the AMC12.

I think I put down all my scores when I applied, but you don’t have to do this if they only leave you one spot.

Oh all of them except the 109 are amc12s. Do you think it’s okay to put down the freshman score even when they ask for the date of your test?

Yeah, I do. I doubt they’ll think much about it, but even subconsciously someone might just think you just didn’t care for contest math and stopped taking it after doing very well as a freshman (and 94 is very good for a freshman.) Not liking contest math doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t like real math, so they won’t interpret it as a lack of interest.

Thanks so much collegealum314! (haha 314 i just noticed that), anyways yeah I think I’ll go with that. It’s not that I don’t like contest math actually (I did okay in things like mandelbrots and CMLs.) It’s just that amc’s always seemed to be bad days for me. But anyways once again thanks a lot =]

can somebody help me too! i’m applying early action and I can’t decide…

I took it in 10th and 11th grade, and did badly both times, but had a high score within my school, and received an award within the school for that. Should I mention my scores? Or should I leave the section about the AMC blank?

@ rayankees

I have the same situation as you. I included my scores, and then in the academic distinctions section put that i got the highest score in my school. I think it just shows that my school isn’t very contest math oriented (or math oriented at all for that matter).

I’m laughing because I am pretty certain that all these scores I just read humble mine.
Don’t be afraid to put these scores up! If anything, it shows that you like math enough to take the AMC (multiple times too)!
