Low AP Scores, How will it affect my chances on top colleges?

I come from a school were only 6 out of 60 kids passed the AP world test, but shouldn't be an excuse

That’s like asking how will setting yourself on fire hurt your neurological system.

j/k dude, you’ll be fine

You don’t need to report them

thanks, appreciate it and nice metaphor lol

if you don’t report them then they will most likely you did really poorly on the tests. from what I’ve heard, low ap scores will affect apps negatively.

so what would you recommend doing?

well did you do well in the classes? also try taking subject tests for the subjects to show that you have somewhat mastered the subject.

arent there colleges that ask you to report you every single test you’ve ever taken? 0.o especially top schools…?
enh i could be wrong but i thought i read that somewhere.

Colleges generally put very little emphasis on AP scores. It wouldn’t really be fair to students without access to AP classes or with bad AP teachers to be penalized for something outside their control.

EDIT: However, colleges may think that a high grade and low AP score means that the class isn’t very rigorous.

It’s not that they don’t place emphasis on them, they just don’t have them as an application requirement because the availability of AP courses varies widely from school to school. AP scores are valued more than most people think.

In regards to bad teachers: that’s not an excuse. I self taught myself 25% of an AP course (because we didn’t get to the material) while managing two varsity sports. It’s doable.

AP scores are used more for placement than for admission. You’ll probably be fine.
