Hi! I am currently a junior. I have taken 3 AP exams already…Bio, Chem, and AP World. I am upset with my rather low scores. I received a 3 on Bio and Chem, and a 4 on AP World. Are these scores really bad considering I would like to apply schools in the range of Villanova, Fordham, BC, etc.? Should I even send them? I want to major in something science-related, so it is really discouraging to see my science scores so low. I am taking 4 more AP exams this May, so I am definitely going to prepare much earlier this year in hopes of received scores in the 4-5 range. Do colleges even consider these scores that highly? Can they be a deal-breaker? Thanks!
You do not send AP scores during the admissions round. You can choose to self-report them or not. Wait to see how you do on the other tests and then you can decide which, if any, you want to report.
Thanks. Any more input?
Does anyone else have any advice/info on this topic?
There is really no more advice to give, as suzy100 gave you correct and complete information. I’ll just chime in to say that I don’t think those are “bad” scores. They are all above the average scores for those tests.
Okay thank you @taverngirl
The definitive answer was given. Wait until you get your scores this year to figure out which ones you will send. Oh, and regardless of whether you decide to send a 3 or a 4, calling them “bad scores” is disingenuous. FWIW, I would probably not report the 3’s; reporting the 4 is more than OK, IMO. Regardless, AP scores carry little, if any weight, in the admissions process; they are mostly used for credit/placement. The fact that you passed AP Bio and AP Chem as a sophomore is impressive, though.
I got an answer, I was just wondering what other people’s experiences were. I wouldn’t call the scores bad either, it’s just that it is typical to see people on CC with multiple 5s @skieurope
True. Fortunately though, the users who post on CC are not a representative subset of college-bound seniors.
You’re right. Sometimes I just have to remember that several CC users have very high standards, but in the grand scheme of things, we will all do great things in the future if we put in the effort
@skieurope
I received a 720 on the BioM subject test though. Will this compensate for my 3(an exam which I took freshman year-- probably too early in my HS career lol)? Or would 720 be equal in achievement to the 3?
In my opinion your 720 is more important and makes your 3 relatively meaningless. Congratulations for your great (especially for a sophomore) score.
No. Aside from the fact that the 2 test different things (HS-level vs. college-level), 99.99% of US colleges do not use one test in lieu of another. That said, some colleges require/recommend/consider Subject Test scores, so for those colleges, your 720 will be part of the admissions decision, while your 3 will be, as @sherpa said, (relatively) meaningless.
Ok thanks, I was referring to the admissions decision @skieurope
Thank you!! @sherpa
