there is this whole mystique around the ivy league, like if someone goes to one, they must be REALLY SMART, right?

not really. chances are very high that they are significantly smarter than average. however, I don't know a single person at an ivy league school whom I would call a "genius"

they work hard, most of them are passionate about something, but the most outlying characteristic is their NORMALCY. you would never expect it.

get the idea out of your head that ivy league is only for geniuses, prodigies, and people who have done amazing EC's. Ivies are mostly inhabited by relatively normal people who are smarter than average, worked hard, and possibly were raised from a young age to have a good college application. CC hypes up what it takes to get into ivy league, but I have been absolutely stunned by just how NORMAL all the ivy leaguers I've met have been.

Not surprised, nor do I agree that CCers are a majority of outliers (as far as genius goes). People who post here tend to prepare like crazy for SATs and the likes. Now, for true geniuses, check out the artofproblemsolving forums.

I agree with you. Even when I’m visited Princeton I’ve met only one person that seemed “brilliant” the rest were all smart kids that had a passion in something, whether is be figure skating or acting or whatever…

Harvard on the other hand… Full of brilliant people but also full of your standard ivy smart kid that is passionate about something.

although in all due honesty, most of the brilliant geniuses are in grad schools, on research projects, in Princeton, MIT, Harvard, Oxford, Carnegie Mellon, CERN, CalTech etc…
