I’m trying to get into the cheapest housing possible, Rubin’s low cost triples that are ~5500 a year. What I’m wondering, though, is:

Will the dorms for low cost tenants be noticably crappier than others? As long as there aren’t roaches or rancid smells, I should be fine. Basically, what are the differences between the low cost dorms and all the rest?

Is it hard to get into the low cost housing? I mailed my deposit the day of the deadline, so I don’t know when I’ll be able to register for housing. Is this going to diminish my chances of getting a place in Rubin’s low cost? I don’t know if there are as many people trying to save money as there are trying to get great dorms.

i know that housing isn't first come first serve. as long as you turn in your housing application by the deadline you're fine. those who send in their application before the deadline are not at an advantage over those who turn it in ON the day of the deadline

Rubin's more like $6k a year, if it makes any difference to you. Also, in general "low-cost" just means "smaller." It's not any dirtier or run-down than any of the other rooms.

just so you know if you are going for the low cost thing, go for the 19 meal per week not the 10. Its $250 dollars more for almost twice the food, and eating out a lot is VERY expensive and really adds up from what I've heard.

omgitsjack, I have no idea. If you want clear answers, you should call the Housing Office.

However, I imagine that if you request Hayden low-cost, the Housing Office will assume that you'd rather have low-cost than the given building due to the money involved. So, if they can't put you into Hayden low-cost, they'll try and put you into another building's low-cost. But that's just my guess.

Yepp, I too am desperate for the Rubin LCT.. It seems really competitive, doesn't it? Nearly everyone who seems to care much about money (and that isn't a minority..) seems to compete for it.

Seems I'm not the only one whose preference #1 is Rubin and #2 Hayden..
