Hi. I'm a junior, and I'm really worried about having enough ECs and Leadership positions for college admissions.

^cliched line right there xD

Anyways, I'm the typical shy, book girl, and so far, I've been able to land only one position in one of my clubs. My grades, SAT, and recs (I think) will be fine, but leadership will definitely kill me this time next year.

So my question is how important are leadership positions in college admissions? And (besides being a club officer) what are some ways to be more involved in leadership? (and what is this NYLC thing?)

I have the same concern. xD My grades and scores are good enough, but I lack extracurriculars beyond French Club/Honor Society, Key Club, and tutoring folks, and have no leadership positions whatsoever.

i have 4 honor societies, a bunch of clubs I am actively involved in, and some pretty good volunteer hours, but my only leadership position was being co-captain of my cheer team freshman year… which isn’t very impressive.

It’s pretty unfair considering I go to a really big school where everyone wants a position in clubs

Try to be more outspoken in your clubs. College Adcoms want students that not only have good grades/SATs but who show leadership. However, they realize that in some cases, becoming president of x club is a matter of popularity. Do you have some other talent in music or art?

hmm… not so much art but i’m in varsity tennis and I play in an orchestra outside my school (DAAYO). I’m pretty sure the orchestra is nbd though.
