Low Engineering GPA First Year

Hey guys,

So I am worried and I would like some reassurance or if anyone can help me with some study tips that would be great! So I just finished my first year at UT Austin in Engineering and ended up with a GPA of 2.86/4.0 which I think is terrible, because I know I can do better. My goal is to bring it up to at least a 3.4 by the time I graduate and a 3.5 would be ideal. Do you think it is possible and what are some study tips that anyone can recommend?

Thank you so much!

Don’t despair, the first year was the hardest for my DS as well. I forget his overall GPA for freshman year but, I think yours is a little higher than his was as a freshman ECE major. Fast forward, he’s a super senior one class shy of his ECE degree (he picked up a second major which added the extra year) and has around a 3.6. It can be done.

He’s become a time management expert who no longer hesitates to talk to professors. One tip, make smart motivated friends for group projects! He’s had a few team members disappear leaving him to pick up the slack. Very frustrating!

oh that sounds very hopeful! Thank you :)) @PokeyJoe
