I guess I’m the one in a million females who didn’t have any issues in college or in her engineering career.
@bluebayou Your daughter has my respect. I don’t like the idea that girls need to have gender parity in STEM classes to be comfortable, this just perpetuates the myth that women are fragile creatures who have to be protected and cherished but never challenged. There are plenty of smart men who can appreciate brainpower and professionalism in anybody, and unfortunately there are also lots of stupid and/or mean people, sexist or other variety. The latter can be avoided or confronted, but they shouldn’t be feared.
Ridicule has no place in a classroom but I guess it’s ok with you. I totally disagree. People use that excuse to condone bullying, ridicule, and fear.
Toughen up.
No one should have to endure any of that but when you pick a particular group out to do that to and then say it’s ok
You’re part of the problem…
I know when I made this thread, I was not expecting this to be a thread Mars versus Venus. When my daughter start excelling in math, she was questioned, but when she took a regent exam and without taking the class she aced it, teachers and counselor start promoting her. Initially there was hesitation as she was start to going higher level math classes, but as she kept proving herself. she was part of the gang. Boys accepted her in higher level class and math competitions.
I really have no idea what will happen once she is in college or professional life. But our bigger problem is first she needs to get in a good college.
