I go to a school known notoriously for having some serious grade deflation. I know I will have to work even harder next semester, but will these grades hurt my chances at a good med school?

1st semester:
Calc: B-
French 3rd semester: B+
Honors Chem 1: C
Writing: B

I'm going to end up with a 2.7ish, which is downright awful. I know I have to bring up my chem grades considerably next semester, but have I ruined my chances?

If you get very good grades the rest of college you’ll probably be fine.

Honestly the most important thing is to maintain the attitude that you can still get in. If you start thinking “well my GPA is already bad, what’s the point?” then you’re just gonna keep getting poor grades and then you definitely won’t have a chance at med school.

frosh grades won’t keep you out, but the trend may. Especially worrisome is that chem grade, since med schools focus on science classes to see how well you’ll do in a med school curriculum. You need to figure out what to do different in the future to get better grades. Most schools have a study skills center, and you should definitely be taking advantage of anything they can offer.
