It still blows my mind that I probably won’t visit the Penn forum after December 13…
Man rejection is going to suck =_=

I thought decisions came out on the 15th, I would prefer the 13th though.

@Wiki, the 15th is just an estimate. It looks like last year they came out a few days earlier.

This is agonizing how will I survive 6 entire weeks…

My birthday is dec 11th. It will either be really stressful because I’m still waiting, really happy because I was accepted, or really depressed because I was rejected/deferred (most likely).

Thought I’d throw my stats in here:

SAT: 2370 (800 770 800) (One sitting)
GPA: 3.65 Unweighted
Class Rank: School doesn’t rank.
Senior GPA: 4.0 Unweighted, Junior GPA: 3.91 Unweighted

Applying to SEAS: Computer Science: DMD.

Hook (of some sort): Attended Penn’s SAAST program, made an A+ in the class, already have a 4.0 at Penn…had a very nice chat with the director of the DMD program (a small program within Computer Science) who happened to work in admissions for 16 years. She knew who I was before I introduced myself to her (she remembered my essay and the TA’s and professor had mentioned me to her). Not trying to brag, trying to give a full picture of my application.

I made my own portfolio website featuring my work (I did some work coding/creating video games when I was younger) which seemed to hugely impress them. Also made logos/designs/websites for companies for work experience.

My professor from the Penn SAAST program wrote me a letter of rec, he told me they were “glowing.”

Played basketball for a few years, did some clubs, did 150+ hours of community service, helped rebuild hurricane damaged homes, all that stuff that everyone does. Not going to help me really.

Anyway, it’s my freshman/sophomore GPA that is killing me. Like the rest of you guys in here, my application seems pretty strong except for my GPA in those two years.

I’d really love to go to Penn, though. Every other day I switch between optimistic and pessimistic - One day I wake up, look at my scores and extracurricular achievements and think I have a very strong chance; other days I simply look at my GPA and wonder why in the hell they’ll choose me.

^I’d say you have a pretty good chance. Probably the low GPA’er with the biggest chance (especially since you’re not applying Wharton )

I don’t have a sub 3.7, but I’m jealous of the SAT scores you guys have. lol.

are people with low SATs welcomed here? :[

No get out.
Really, Penn accepts low SATs way more readilly than low GPAs.

My cumulative GPA is not bad but I have a downward trend, and I definitely messed up my junior year… advice?

no one can give you advice at this point, what’s done is done. Just try to get everything else as shiny as possible and hope for the best. You can’t change the past.

what I meant by advice was actually asking for your “opinion”… so is downward trend (straight A to several B’s) a huge turn-down or doesn’t matter much comparing to other things… say, SAT?

I would say it might be a big deal, I mean in my eyes at least, Junior year is the most important year, that is where you should display your highest abilities, taking hard classes and getting good grades. Straight A’s to a bunch of B’s kind of says, I took the hard classes, but couldn’t handle the workload, now of course B’s aren’t the end of the world, but when there are 3 other people with a 4.0 and then you, it kind of matters. Basically, it might matter, in the grand scheme maybe not, but if you are on the fence, hopefully they ignore that and look to EC’s, Essays, and SATs or something.

Come on, there must be more low GPA’ers…! :S
If there aren’t I am screwed.

GPA- 3.55 UW
SAT- 1950
URM
Athlete

NERVOUS !!!

URM? Athlete?
You have a better shot than most 4.0s.

You are a recruited athlete, right?
P.S You’re not even applying to Wharton ;)

M+T (deferring to SEAS)
GPA - 3.5 Unweighted, but extremely rigorous courseload (top 1%) and very competitive public school
SAT - 2350 (or 1600)
Hispanic, Legacy

^^To the two or three so posters who have posted stats above me; you make me feel antsy and nervous.

All of you are URM and particularly for the one whose top 1% of his or her class, you don’t even need to be on here! :)

Guys, your GPA doesn’t mean crap if you’re valedictorian or at the top of your class. You could have a 3.0 but if that’s the highest GPA in the class, they’re not going to penalize you for that…

I think they mean top 1% courseload, whatever that means.
