So, my GPA is a 3.27 but 3.30 without freshman year. I’m very close to wrapping up junior year with A’s in 4 AP classes, and 2 B’s, which would raise it up to 3.29 or 3.39 without freshman year. Is there a way my standardized test scores can make up for the GPA’s or am I just screwed like I feel I am?
It would be very hard. The admission average uwGPA last year was 3.87. Admission with uwGPA below 3.6 is very rare. They view GPA and course rigor as most important while test scores are just important.
Agree with bill. It’s a long shot. That said, you could take a year or two of college at a junior college and get in as a transfer if you keep your grades stellar.
would it be worth it to retake some classes? I have 2 c’s freshman year and one sophomore year that’s hurting my gpa.
no, it’s not worth it. remember you can always transfer to umich
Have you taken the ACT/SAT yet? If you did, what are your scores?
Can you dunk a basketball? What is your time in the 40?
^^^^Most accurate comment in this thread. LOL
Regarding retaking: would this replace your grade or would it average? Not sure it will help unless the Cs disappear!
They could use a running back too…
If I retake it would replace my grade, but the old one would still be in my transcript. my SAT was 1250 which is low and ill probably be en the 28-30 range on my first ACT
Then your problem is more than a weak GPA. UMich is a very high reach (out of reach) for you.
I haven’t studied for either so I definitely feel like neither tests would hold me back
Are you in-state? Attending one of the feeder schools? I would work to raise your ACT to 34. Apply to to the School of Kinesiology instead of LSA, Engineering or Ross, because of the lower average GPA (you can always transfer schools later) . Apply EA. I would expect that you would be deferred, but with a very strong showing in fall of your senior year you might be admitted. (I’d also apply to MSU)
I’m from Arizona and Michigan only has 44 students from here. Also, if I apply for Kinesiology, would I be able to switch to the Engineering if I were to be admitted?
You can switch to engineering with a 2.5 (min) GPA and if you take all of the prerequisite courses. A higher GPA makes a cross campus transfer more likely. Since you are from Arizona ASU and UA are the obvious backups.

Applying directly to engineering with your current stats would be a near certain rejection ; the average GPA is 3.9 and ACT around 33, but even higher for OOS.
There is one state with only one student on the chart, so they don’t really care as long as they have one from each state.
I’d look elsewhere.
apply this year, so far mostly low gpa and sat admitted, high stats student, great ECs and essays deferred…
OP is probably now be a Junior in college, so…
Call your specific UMich admission officer and speak with them. Its a long shot but even longer if you dont try. Transfers still get a UMich degree so the door is not totally closed. Good luck but also keep in mind that it is a rigorous school and perhaps grad school might be a better option if you can prove yourself to be a serious student with leadership qualities.
