hi guys so I just got the results from my sophomore year grades. Not as high as I expected, really disappointed.

Freshman year I completely messed up due to awful personal issues. 3.3 GPA (i know, terrible.)
This year I received a 3.93 GPA...but that's weighted. Unweighted it's around a 3.6. I'm taking 1 AP and 3 honors classes this year and next year I plan to take 3 AP's and 1 honors, and senior year 4 AP's.

Am I still on track for Gtown (dream school) and BC? I feel like my GPA is really bringing me down so much and completely throwing out my chances. Am I making a big deal out of nothing?
By the way, if it helps, I'm going to a preparatory school.

Hey DCgirl! I think it’s a bit early to tell what sort of a track you’re on. Good for you for thinking so early though, that’s truly admirable.

I totally understand how you’re feeling. My freshman year, I only had a 3.7. But! I was able to really bring it up in the following years, like you I don’t know how it works at your Prep school, but at mine, our cumulative GPA is from 10th-12th grade. So if it’s the same at yours, you shouldn’t fret. And I wouldn’t worry anyways! An upward trend in grades is good, and I don’t think your Freshman Year GPA would matter that much anyways. Don’t make mountains out of mole hills, be confident, and keep shining!

Wow! @DCGirl1997 you sound what seems to be my female counterpart. I came from a private Catholic prep school in NJ with similar GPA and schedule to you.

I can tell you that no matter what, you’re bound for a great school, so don’t worry. As long as you keep working hard to achieve an A/A+ cumulative GPA you will be on track for BC. Georgetown is another story, as it may be out of reach for you in the end. GTown stresses HS transcript and uses SAT/ACT as a guideline, and out of the people I know admitted to Georgetown, all had almost perfect 4.0 UW GPAs.

Keep BC in your sights, as many see it as just as good of a school where students work hard and play hard. I urge you to look at similar schools in the future though, like Villanova, an excellent Augustinian university in the suburbs of Philly with outstanding business, nursing and engineering schools (I’m a bit biased as I will be attending VSB in the fall). Also check out Loyola MD, Providence, BU, UMiami and Tulane.

Gtown will be tough with that GPA, but try as hard as you can to get a 4.0 UW next year, since colleges love improvement. I think you can still get into gtown, as long as you do things that they like now - volunteer, do service, and if you go to a catholic/christian school go on immersions and such. BC, you’ll be fine if you just raise that GPA a little.
