so i'm thinking my test scores and extra curriculars aren't that bad, but my GPA is really dragging me down. i plan to major in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or business management.

please chance me for:
all the UCs
cal poly SLO
USC

and also please recommend schools that have strong engineering/business programs that tend to admit leaders (price, location, fit, etc do not matter at this point)

thanks for looking!
i'll try to chance back
:D

You could try for the UC’s except Berkeley, which would be a major stretch. A spectacular essay would help with the others, though. USC is possible. Good Luck!

Your test scores are going to save you.
You have Merced and Riverside handsdown.
Id be surprised if you were not admitted to UCI, UCSB, UCSC and SLO.
You could get into UCSD and USC.
And id think if your essay was killer UCLA and Cal could be a reach.

Your test scores are fine, but your GPA sucks. Maybe you shouldn’t retake the tests since your scores are fine and focus on raising your GPA senior year in case your get deferred?

A 3.6 weighted GPA would make the mid tier UCs very difficult in engineering. The higher the SAT score, the better your chance, but all but UCR and UCM have to be looked at as reaches–average GPs at those schools is 4.0 or close, and engineering is higher.

JamesChang, I’ve heard the same, but I still have to write a pretty amazing essay for them to even consider me. :/

Hmom5, thanks for being realistic. I am trying to improve my test scores and I’m hoping that they will compensate, at least a little bit, for my low GPA.

Yosup, I know my GPA sucks. I know I can do better on the ACT (I screwed up on the Science section when I got my 32). So I’m just doing some light prep when I’m done with homework and whatnot. I know I can do better, so why not, right? My Senior year grades look like they should be pretty good. I know it’s the beginning of the year, but right now I have straight As except for a B in AP Lit. After the October ACT, I’ll be fully dedicated to college applications and my grades. I’m also hoping that a good 1st semester GPA will help me when/if I decide to appeal.

Thanks everyone! Keep the chances/advice/suggestions coming!
