I just applied to Rutgers and I'm worried about my chances of getting in. My GPA is a 2.64 as of now because during my first three years of high school I had family responsibilities so couldn't really focus fully on my academics. But I got better and better grades every year and my junior year I was a A,B student. My SATS were a 1670
Cr-600
Math-560
Writing-510 I also have extracurriculars
4 years of ym youth group
1 year of teen pep
1 year of philosophy club
1 year of hpti (teen center clubs)
Currently part of coding club
I also have volunteer hours as well.
As of now in senior year I have A's in almost all my classes
I applied to environmental science school in NB and business and criminal justice school in Newark. Do you think I have a chance?

I think you have a chance defiantly for Newark and possibly for NB but a 1670 is good so you never know!

NB is a bit of a stretch. You are well below the 25th percentile in both GPA and SAT for admitted applicants for SEBS. Newark you’ll have a better chance.

Do they really consider the upward trend in grades?

From what I have seen, it is hard to get in with a GPA <3.0 in NB. Probably more of a chance at Newark. But no one can tell you for sure. I would have a backup plan in case you don’t get in at first. For ex, community college for one or 2 years, then transfer, or another 4 year college.

I am a parent and have seen many of my kids’ friends get into Rutgers as transfers after mediocre high school careers. Don’t get discouraged. It may take you a year or two longer, but you will get in eventually. And you may get in this year, you’ll just have to wait and see.

Good luck!
