Low GPA effect on admission?

Hi… super anxious about my ED to JH.

Freshman year I had a B- and B on my grades but improved to straight A’s/A-'s Junior year with a much more challenging course load (really wish I studied harder right now)…

Assuming the rest of my application is solid (EC’s, essays, SAT/ACT, course load), how much will a 3.68 UW GPA hurt me?

im in the same situation. we need to hope for the best

same situation here, freshman year is the only messed up year

Gee, it is really unfortunate kids today are made to feel unsettled by a couple of Bs during their freshman year. I would say you do not need to worry if the rest of your application is solid. As you probably know, JHU is a “reach” school for anyone, but I am certain you all have as good a chance as anyone and applying ED should help. If there was a year to get some Bs, it is really best that it was freshman year. Upward trending is good! Good luck!

Bs won’t make or break your application. The whole picture will matter much more.
It’s out of your hands right now, so relax.
Or apply to your state flagship’ s honors college.

@Sam-I-Am - Amen. I really do feel badly for kids these days - my own and others. So much pressure for straight A’s, and to have a list of extra curriculars as long as a city block. We were having this discussion during Thanksgiving dinner about how 30 years ago “lower” grades and test scores weren’t preventing (most) us from getting into the colleges we’d selected. Today though, these colleges are playing an entirely different game.

Supply and demand. Internet increases awareness of these schools.

OP, apply to JHU and hope for the best AND apply to your state flagship as a safety (if it is a safety - varies by state).
