i just graduated this winter with a c average from cornell engineering. I didn't like it (obviously)

but i have grades range from B to A for course that i was really interested such as art, design, and human-computer interaction. I am planning on working for year to accmumulate some portfolios.

i guess i wasn't sure exactly what my chances are ? since grad school admssion often ask for B avg.

I am not completely sure I understand what you were trying to say. I think you are saying that you had under a 3.0 in undergrad, want to apply to graduate programs in an unrelated field and want to know your chances of admission.

Not all graduate programs require a 3.0 for consideration. Many masters degrees have lower minimum GPA requirements.

If you are serious about changing fields, you will need to get some work experience in your new field. One year probably won't be sufficient time to accomplish much but maybe two or three would be. Hopefully that time would also allow you to narrow down your interests to something a little more definitive than "art, design and human-computer interaction".

I don't think anybody could tell you at this point your odds of admission at any program in particular. If you are able to get decent experience, potentially publish (or patent or whatever you computer people do), gain strong recs and maybe even take a few non degree graduate courses, you will be in a good spot for applications.

thanks. i agree. i guess i just panic. i have pretty good work/internship experience. maybe work a year or two for better recommendations and portfolio will make up that gap.
