Low GPA for receiving FAFSA

When I filled my FAFSA for 2011, my GPA was below 2.0 but when I'm done with this Spring quarter, it's going to be 2.5. Does my previous GPA matter to receive my FAFSA? or financial aid and grant such as Pel grant?

Thanks in advance.

GPA wiill not affect your need-based financial aid.

Actually it can. Schools have to have a satisfactory academic progress (SAP) policy in place for federal aid. It usually consists of a minimum GPA requirement, successful completion of a minimum % of all credit hours attempted, and not going over a maximum number of credit hours.

For instance at my daughter’s school the SAP requirements are a 2.0 cumulative GPA, successful completion of 75% of all classes attempted ever (including any dropped classes) and no more than 180 hours attempted. Not meeting any part of the SAP requirements can lose to loss of eligibility for aid.

SAP will vary by school.

Wait, is OP in college yet or not?

I believe he is in college already.
