Low GPA/High ACT Chances

Hi everyone I’m an Indian Male in TN and I would like to know how competitive I am at UGA.

My stats are :

3.45 UW GPA (this can become a 3.55 at the end of 1st semester senior year).
3.78 UGA GPA
4.04 W GPA (this can become a 4.13 at the end of 1st semester senior year).
35 ACT (36 Superscore)
1420 PSAT
SAT 2’s Scores Pending (Math 2 & Physics)
Full IB Diploma Curriculum (5 HL classes and 1 SL)

EC’s (simplified list):

3 years varsity soccer
3 years MUN
2 years Robotics
2 years Knowledge Bowl
1 year History Bowl
2 years Badminton Club
Attended Advanced Space Academy for 1 week, earned one undergrad credit.
Attended Harvard Summer School for 7 weeks, earned eight undergrad credits.
10 Week Research with a College Professor
2 year Intern at an IT firm
Secretary Badminton Club
Co-President Astronomy Club
Co-President of ACT/SAT Tutoring group

Trend: Very Good 9th grade, OK 10th Grade, Bad 11th Grade, Hopefully Very Good 12th Grade

School doesn’t have class rank.

I WOULD LIKE TO GO IN THE PRE-MED STREAM SO LIKELY MAJOR IS BIOLOGY.

ALSO PLEASE RECOMMEND IF I SHOULD APPLY EA OR RD.

Thank you!

bump

Apply EA and you should be fine. I know someone with a lower ACT score and similar GPA who got in. I’m sure you are aware that like TN, GA is a lottery funded state. Don’t expect anything in the way of merit aid. Have you looked at Alabama? Unless it changes this year (and I believe it will change soon), UA offers the Presidential (full tuition) to anyone with a minimum ACT of 32 and a 3.5 gpa (they take the highest gpa off the transcript whether weighted or uw). You must apply by Dec 15 of your senior year. My TN son did not want to stay in-state (we lived in Knoxville and everyone went to UT) so this was a great option for him.

If I qualify for the Presidential Scholarship at UA (which it seems that I do), would I be auto-admitted? @FamilyofFive

I believe so. I’ve never known anyone who met the qualifications for Presidential to be turned away. If you are interested in UA, head over to the UA section on CC and you will find all the information you need. Contact the Honors College to set up your tour. They do an excellent job.

Alright thank you. And as for UGA, if my probability of getting accepted in EA is “fine”, then would RD be even greater or is that more competitive? @FamilyofFive

I would go for EA. What is the downside? If you don’t get admitted EA then you are automatically shifted over to RD anyway. At least that is my understanding. Both of my kids were accepted EA along with several of their friends so I am not that familiar with the RD process as we never had to research it.

Ok thanks for all your help. @FamilyofFive

just wondering, did you get accepted?
