Low GPA high ACT

Hi! I have a high act score but a low gpa due to an undiagnosed issue that just recently was figured out. My first two years of highschool went pretty poorly but this year(my junior year) I’m doing extremely well and am taking rigorous courses next year! Please help me figure out my chances at a good school.
ACT- 32
GPA-2.9 unweighted
GPA junior year so far: 3.8 unweighted

Do colleges appreciate that I’ve done so well this year and will do well next year? As in, will they try to section out my junior year grades and senior year grades because I had a problem freshman And sophomore year? Thanks for the help!

Depending on the school, they could see your improvement and look past the bad grades freshman year. It really depends on where you’re going though. Also, because your ACT scores are quite good, you should have a solid chance at a lot of schools. Good luck!

When applying, either you or your counselor should send your schools a letter explaining the reason why your grades dropped (family issues, medical reasons, etc). You should also try and bring you gpa up as much as you can to show them that you were able to bounce back from whatever was causing you to have low grades.
Good luck!

are you looking at acceptance or merit aid? Can you get to a 3.0? A 32 and 3.0 will get merit aid at many state schools. Some require 3.5.
