low GPA high SAT.. any chance for good univ

*hello~ (my first post!)

I’m also in same situation…
I have an average weighted GPA something around 3.8/3.9 (not including my junior year)
but currently, my junior year GPA is VERY VERY bad…
I have taken 5 AP classes so far and all honors classes (not one single regular class)
I plant to take 3 APs my senior year with ONE regular class
Im planning on getting at least a 2200 on the SAT
I havent taken any SAT IIs yet…

Any hope? *

I think you need to start a new thread…

What is your GPA for this year and what is your new cum GPA? Your listed cum GPA doesn’t include your junior year. And, what IS your junior year GPA?

I have to tell you…schools heavily LOOK at junior year grades. Senior grades don’t count much for admittance.

What did you get on your PSAT?

Ben H. Park, a 3.98 GPA is seen as excellent as long as your one B is in an AP class, and not some regular class. My friend got into Standford U with a 3.98. Colleges basically look at it as a 4.0 so you have nothing to worry about.

Most colleges look at the grades of your applied major (unless you apply undeclared). However, you should atleast do well to an extent in all your other classes.

Colleges recalculate gpa throught their own formula etc.

Honestly, since you’re International it’s going to be difficult. I think you can get into a top 100 school nonetheless.

When applying to college, most admissions officials look at the cGPA, not just your major (Which would be really wierd because a lot of people would end up getting in where they didn’t fill the averages of GPA/SAT)
Your SAT is okay, but not great, especially since you’re in int.

I would say that you have to bulk up to the EC’s, get REALLY good Teacher Rec’s, and also write some awe-inspiring Essays to get into a “good” (meaning Tier 1) school.

If you’re shooting for like Tier 3 or something, I think you’d be good just because of the fact that they search for diversity.

Best of luck:)

same situation here, 3.2uw/4.1w gpa, 1420/2120 sat, not sure what colleges might think about low gpa but high-ish sat??

^Some schools don’t care whether it’s W or UW.

UVA takes whatever GPA is given to them and does not recalculate (My school sends weighted).

Your W GPA is very high so definitely look into those schools.

xdance: *same situation here, 3.2uw/4.1w gpa, 1420/2120 sat, not sure what colleges might think about low gpa but high-ish sat?? *

Are you an int’l? What schools are you considering? What is your likely major?

Question.

My GPA is around 3.5 unweighted. I’m a junior, taken the SAT’s once (got a 2170 with self-practicing for only 1 week prior to the test, so I think I can def’ boost it). 800 CR, 690 M, 680 W.

What are my chances of getting into a top 20 college?

I’m also interested in NYU…so what are my chances of getting in there? I have average EC.

low gpa, high sat (2180) and ap 3x(5)

hey im trying to get into ut-austin but im not sure if i qualify. i got a 1920 SAT(680 CR, 580 M, 660 W) and a 27 ACT score. i have 130 hours of community service. im balck if that helps.

80% isn’t even a 2.5… I have an 85% GPA but that’s considered a 2.42. :frowning: An 80% is about a 2.0-2.1, so I would be worried if I were you.
The only thing that’s going to save me during college admissions is my 31 ACT and personal statements/essays.
