Low GPA, High SAT, average extra curriculars.

messed up my freshmen year and sophomore I took a ridiculous schedule (AP euro, ap chem, calc bc) don't know what I was thinking.

anyways, what are the best schools I could get into with these stats, in terms of prestige?

GPA(UW): 3.44 (will be a 3.5 by the end of junior year)
Freshmen: 3.25 -1 AP
Sophomore:3.33 -3 AP's
Junior(first semester): 3.66 -2 AP's
increasing trend, but it still sucks :(

SAT: 2330
800 M, 800 W, 730 CR

PSAT: 221 not sure if i'll get merit because my gpa is awful :/

ACT: 30
I just took this for the first time without any preparation. i'm planning to actually study and raise it to a 34ish soon, or else I won't send it.

SAT subjects
Math II: 800 Chem: 680 (probs will not send this)

AP Test Scores
Calc AB: 3 (took freshmen year, however received a subscore of 5 when I took the bc test sophomore year...increasing trend?)
Chem: 4
Calc BC: 5, AB subscore of 5
Euro: 3 (rough, I know)

Extra Curriculars: Meh
2 years on FIRST Robotics
President of Quizbowl
qualified for top 1000 for MMPC math competition for 3 years
2 years JV field hockey, 1 Varsity
attended a science and engineering camp at smith college (not prestigious or anything)
hopefully will attend a science and engineering thing at U of M this summer(waiting to hear if I get in)

I'm an Indian (Asian) Female from Michigan.

basically, my gpa is awful and my test scores are decent. where should I apply? assuming money isn't a factor, undecided major, and class size or location doesn't matter to me as of now

chance me for these as well please
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
Duke
Rice
do I even have a chance?

UMich should be pretty likely b/c you’re in state and they have a pretty big emphasis on test scores. However, Duke and Rice would probably be reaches for you, because they have tons of applicants with similar scores. You do seem to have a tough course load, so the GPA really isn’t that bad. Applying early would help for Duke or Rice, but remember these are two very tough schools to get in for anyone. UMich is a great school which I will probably apply to as well (: Good luck!

It sounds to me like you have excellent test scores and at a minimum you will be selected as a National Merit Semi-finalist. I also think that schools recognize that not all grades are created equally while SAT type tests are universal and indicate to some extent your potential in comparison to other people around the world. Perhaps, and I say this with some reluctance, you will not be accepted by Harvard–if that is your goal-but so what. You will probably be admitted to most schools and it is perfectly possible to obtain a world class education at many schools–including schools that have less than a robust reputation. Don’t let you grades derail your efforts. Also, schools really do care about the whole person. So, if you are involved with other activities such as athletics or the speech team or if you have displayed leadership qualities at a reasonably high level–such as being the student class president that can make a big difference. Also, although I hate to say this, in our politically correct world, every school has an unspoken and sometimes spoken policy regarding the number of students that fall into certain categories. It is the reality of the world we live in.

alright thanks you guys so much. but umich places a higher value on gpa than test scores unfortunately haha
