Low GPA, high SAT

my name is Alejandro, i'm from spain. i go to a private school based on art (but we still have math, physics and everything, of course). my gpa is very low, about 3.0/4.0. to be honest, i have no excuses, i was just lazy.
however, my SAT is high: 800 in math, 780 cr, 680 writing. keep in mind that, obviously, english is not my first language.

my dream would be to attend MIT. it sounds kind of ridicolous because i even flunked math once, but wouldn't the SAT prove that i have no problems in it?

as for extracurriculars, i play the guitar and draw. i also wrote some poetry (in spanish).

i have to take SAT subject tests now, will try to make them perfect. if i really try to make the best i can, could i have any chance at all?

sorry to break it to you, you won’t get into MIT. SAT’s are only a small portion of the app. You would also need high scoring ap’s, SAT II’s, AMC scores, etc. The lowest accepting unweighted gpa to MIT is somewhere like 3.6, and those are athletes. also, you would have to need either a diverse extracurricular list or a few strong extracurriculars. all the people I know at MIT won some prestigious math/science competition, such as the International Intel Science competition.

/\ Don’t listen to them. You may not have a great chance, but try!! Perhaps bring up your low GPA somewhere and explain to them how you are trying to improve it and how your work ethic is now different because you regret your decisions.
