Low GPA, High SAT

Here is my situation. I’m an international student trying to apply to FSU and UCF. I got 7.5 out of 10 in 12th grade and somehow the evaluation company got me 2.6 out of 4 on the scale of US GPA ! But i got my SAT quite high 1380/1600. There is a reason for my poor high school performance. I had depression. And i made sure that i’ve included it in my essay. My counselor told me that if my GPA is low but my SAT is high and i include my depression into my essay, they will understand !. So what do you guys think ? Tks

No no no. Don’t include the word depression. Say you had an untreated illness or something. But don’t talk specifically about what it is, and make sure you’re clear that it’s gone now. Saying you had/have depression may spook admissions counselors.

What country are you from?
In most countries, a 7.5 is either a high B or even an A!
Change evaluation company…
Do you have a study USA agency?

Do NOT say ‘depression’; you could say ‘lengthy illness with heavy treatment and frequent bed rest that I have now recovered from’… …

SAT quite high 1380/1600

I think that’s pretty average for most universities, not “high”. Your low GPA will also really hurt.

i include my depression into my essay, they will understand

Maybe, but also maybe not. They will look through your grades to see if there is a certain pattern (ie in one semester your grades are far below other semesters).

Just keep in mind that “depression” isn’t some get out of jail free card. If there are better candidates, they will take those candidates over you. It’s the same way in the job market, saying that you had depression in college isn’t going to impress employers.

1380 is high average for US colleges is 1000 it won’t get you into top schools but at some lower ones thats a perfectly fine score

Can you retake the sat? A 1400 and especially 1450 would open up more doors And especially more scholarships.

Most importantly have tat GPA requirement evaluated.
It’s equivalent to a 3.5 if you’re from Italy, a ~3.3 from Brazil and Iran (although if you’re from Iran you’ve got other problems :frowning: ).
