Low GPA, higher SAT - chance me for NEU '24

Hi! I am a current junior and seriously considering Northeastern for business or business management as part of the class of 2024. For background, I am an Asian-American female and have attended school in suburban, well-ranked public schools in MA for ten years.

My stats:
SAT: 1520 (760 V/760 M) and a 22 on the essay (8-6-8). I took this August 2018, which is the summer before junior year. I haven’t taken the ACT and probably won’t take either standardized tests again.
GPA: 3.7 UW, 4.1 W - I know my school probably calculates GPA differently because I have been told that because I say I have pretty much straight B’s in honors and AP classes at my school (which is true!), this GPA is incorrectly calculated. I don’t know if my school has GPA deflation, but again, I average around an eighty seven ish in the most rigorous classes offered.
APs: Chinese, taken sophomore year - 5. Junior: APUSH (taken in school), macro, micro, and US Gov and Politics (self study). Senior: Pysch, IR, maybe French, AB calc, Enviro

My EC’s:
debate captaincy and student journalism leadership for 2 years, won various awards on a local and regional level
started my own business - summer camps - summers before junior and senior year
got various office internships related to business the summer before my junior year
was on a cultural council for my high school
founded community elementary education program

Thanks for reading, and let me know if you have any advice or insights!

Hello!

I am a student at NU, I have been researching a lot about College Admissions, particular in New England. To give you a short answer: Yes, you have a really impressive resume. However, it depends.

Longer answer:

From seeing cases, I have met people who are well below your standard and got accepted. I have also seen people who got accepted by much better schools but got denied by NU. Northeastern, or a lot of the schools, does not only look at your GPA or the number of the AP courses you have taken. But they compare what you have taken and achieved with what your school offers. If someone goes to a small school, took two out of four AP’s, participate in theatre; she/he is probably as competitive as someone who attends a large well ranked school, taking seven out of ten AP’s, participate and thrive in lots of activities. So it is based on how much you effort you made, even when it is difficult for you. I have met someone who founded an Environmental Club in a small school. The club did not get much attention. But that is just as much of an achievement as someone who found a club and got published on the news paper in a huge school. So, in conclusion, it really depends on YOUR status in YOUR school.

Essay and whether you apply financial aid or not can also largely affect your application.

Do not worry too much, I think you are definitely on the safe side.

Good Luck!
